Description

2020 release, the 14th studio album from the Swiss electronic duo. Point is compared to the classic Yello sound of records like Stella, One Second and Flag and "twists it into something ultra-modern." It is "part spy film, part Dali-painting, part strobe lit dance floor, part 4D car chase and part deep space torch song. It''s Yello, absolutely on point."

YELLO never fails to produce great music.

I used to listen to Yello in the 80''s up till their album FLAG, which was the last album I was able to find in my area, and lost touch with their music. Fast forward to 2020 and WABA DUBA came out and I saw the video on youtube. I was blown away and found out they hadn''t stopped making music, I just stopped looking. Since then I have bought every album and have been listening to them non-stop for 2 months. WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING. This album proves that age doesn''t matter and you can do GREAT things no matter what. If you''ve liked Yello in the past, you LOVE this.

Another great YELLO cd to add to their brilliant repertoire, Boris and Dieter have done it again. To The Left To The Right Your Eyes Are Shining Bright - This is a welcome bit of fun during a dismal period of time. I cannot say which song is best because like every Yello cd, everything is wonderful. Yello never gets old and gets better with age. No one holds a candle to Yello. Classy, contagious and down right groovy. Life without Yello is unimaginable.

How did I miss these guys?

I''m a long time music fan. Sweet spot is early 70''s prog bands. I''ve heard of these guys because of "Oh Yeah" but that was about it. I just discovered their music and this is pure genius. Beyond cool, beyond rhythm, just pure genius. I can''t recommend this enough.

What can you say about these guys? How they manage to be so creative this far down the line is beyond me. I don''t think this is their strongest album though and it can be a little drawn out in places but it is still incredibly entertaining. It''s the usual mix of interesting sounds and rhythms with those incredible deep vocals of Dieter Meier that sound as good as ever and make Yello so unique. The opening track, Waba Duba is the best on the album and I was hoping the rest of the album would have a similar energy but it tends to slow down and be a little lacking in excitement from there onward. Still a great album though and I can''t fault these guys simply for the fact that they can be bothered at all but it does at times sound like they are just going through the motions a bit. The sound quality is, as always, top notch on vinyl and CD with lovely deep lows, attacking mids and sparkling highs which shows how much Yello care about the presentation of their music and always have. The vinyl is a good pressing with no obvious flaws and does sound better than the CD, no surprise there.

Another multilayered recording from Yello. Reference sound quality but very refrained and detailed. This recording can only be described as Dada-esque. Definitely one for Yello fans. I have not set out to write reviews of the music content as “beauty is in the ears of the listener”. These reviews are about the quality (or not) of the recorded sound. To read about how the reviews are done please see my profile. • Clarity – superb, absolutely clear, detailed, transparent • Channel separation - excellent • Channel balance – superb, the beats use the channels to build the atmosphere and sound stage • Sound Stage – stunning, so deep and rich you could swim in it. Very wide and high, fabulous on good headphones and HiFi systems • Distortion – non audible • Compression – soaring highs and plunging lows no audible frequency limitation • Atmosphere – classic Dada-esque Yello from breathy close and intimate to huge club sound and stage. Perhaps more intimate than some other Yello recordings • Bass – low frequencies – ranges from measured, controlled, tight to huge plunging, thudding, pounding. Yet restrained best describes the bass on this recording. Where drums are clearly identifiable they are superb • Treble – high frequencies – balanced, detailed, wide ranging has real presence. Wide ranging soars and plunges. Capable of delivering a real sense of presence • Vocals – excellent, both male and female vocals are warm and detailed. The vocals build complex layers. As a general rule of thumb recordings from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s are nearly always better on the original vinyl. Remasters often fail to please as it’s just not possible to make a silk purse from a sows ear, i.e. the original recording lacks the necessary detail to be processed digitally and show an audible improvement. Indeed such processing can make the sound worse. Modern recordings which have been processed digitally from start to finish can be as good as vinyl. CD’s are often unfairly criticised for being poor quality. This is not the case, it is the original recording or the process which is to blame. Modern “remasters” can both enhance and degrade a recording. The statement GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) is the limiting factor. Ignore this at your cost.

When Yello release an album it''s alway an exciting occasion to hear what musical delights this duo have come up with!.. Point does not Disa-point!.. Boris is as creative as ever with sound and production!.. whilst Dieter sounds even more sexy and smooth (hows that possible?)... Every song is a musical adventure, their diversive range holds no bounds. My favourite song and the one I just can''t stop playing is ''Aurthur Spark''.. this sums up Yello''s strength in their musical ability especially Boris who is just a Genius.. the song ''kicks ass'' can''t wait for them to release an extended version. Overall I think ''Toy'' their previous album is better...to the purists this willno doubt go down like a lead balloon but I enjoyed the Super Duo bringing in some new talent especially on the vocals. If you are a new fan I would recommend Toy as this has a huge variety of songs on it. This is more streamlined however it''s still a fabulous album and I would definitely recommend. Play it LOUD! 😊

Tja, was soll man sagen? Erstmals etwas aufhorchen lässt „Way down”.

Obviously this album is for Yello fans (only Yello fans would know it to buy to be honest).... BUT... this album is so perfectly mastered that it is an absolute joy to listen to. Boris has mastered the voice samples to perfection, and Dieters voice coming through is amazing. Waba Duba is quite the track as a first release but ultimately Out Of Sight is without a doubt the best track on the album - the bass line with Dieter''s rough edge voice just packs so much punch. There are a couple of slow moving numbers here but they are left at the end of each side of the vinyl so it''s good to crack on and listen or flip over for the more prominent tracks. Having been a fan of Yello for over 30 years I would say this is their best release since Stella. Great stuff with absolutely amazing production on this one guys. A pleasure for the ears.
