Ok, I read the negative reviews and positive reviews. Ordered anyway after calling Camco and talking to their rep. Apparently the negative reviewers never contacted Camco as they were very helpful and forthcoming. They said they were unaware of multiple failures. Being from a mechanical background I disassembled mine. The problem with breaking while tightening is from gross over tightening. There is no stop to prevent this. The toothed nylon drive for the suction cup is being stripped out by excessive force. For those complaining about suction cup holding but mirror move down vertically, that is most likely also from over tightening. The tightening mechanism end is enclosed and secured by the rear portion of the suction cup. So continuing to turn the knob after suction cup is at full grip causes the tightening mechanism to break free and slip inside the suction cup. This allows the cup to remain stationary and the weight of the mirror to rotate down. Over-tightening can also make the mirror fall off going down the road as the suction cup as been pulled past it max grip shape and actually loses suction.... think from ( to this <
You just have to rotate knob CCW (suction cup moves outward) until suction cup is flat, edges not quite touching the black housing. Press the suction cup against the vehicle mirror by gripping the black housing and then turn the knob 2.5 turns CW. Look at the words embossed on the knob to know how many full turns you make. As there will be some variance, check that it is secure and if not remove and reapply using 3 turns CW if necessary. I tested it on the car at 70 mph + and then placed it on my bathroom mirror with a heavy cotton bath sheet size towel hanging on it for 4 days without it moving. Maybe wear factor will cause eventual failure but so far I am satisfied with the design and function of this Camco mirror. I would suggest that Camco make the flats on the toothed suction cup mechanism smaller to increase tooth width to make it harder for teeth to break under over-tightening and a positive stop to limit tightening. I just don''t see that this mod is necessary, IF care is taken. Photo 1) width of teeth suction cup mechanism(SCM), 2) suction cup mechanism, 3) geared drive for SCM inside the adjustment knob(note flats to prevent SCM from rotating)
I will update after a couple of road trips. Vibration and wind buffering over time may change my mind on functionality.

These mirrors actually suctioned on my tow vehicles mirrors very tight - I doubt they''d fall off. However, after driving around a bit I found that they obscure too much real estate of the tow vehicles mirrors. They also obscured the blind spot monitor indicators on the tow vehicle mirrors (this may not have been an issue since the blind spot monitor system probably wouldn''t be effective with a trailer anyway). Another thing that bugged me was they made my tow vehicle mirrors shack and shimmy from the force of the wind on the suction cup attachment. They''re a good idea, and would probably be ok on a larger tow vehicle mirror, they just didn''t work out for me.

Update: 12/19/18

After trying two other types of mirrors I''ve re-ordered these mirrors. I''ve come to the conclusion that I can live with there limitations. Compared with the clamp-on or strap-on styles, both of which use clips in one way or another, these suction cup mirrors appear to be the ones that will annoy me the least. I have a 2019 Toyota Tacoma, and neither the clamp-on or strap-on style provide enough clearance between the actual Tacoma mirrors and the mirror housings - there is just not enough of a gap for a clip to work very well. In the end I have settled on the least offensive option, which is the suction cup. As stated above, they do suction very well, and I really don''t feel they will fall off. The flimsy safety loop thing is kind of a joke, though, and I''ll probably not use it (who wants the mirror banging against their door if it comes loose anyway). I''ll use them, and if they end up not working out, they are cheap enough to not cause too much grief.

We bought this mirror last July when we first got our new pull behind travel trailer. The suction failed the third trip out and mirror fell and banged against side of our truck. Of course it was past the 30 day return policy so it was our loss. We thoroughly cleaned mirror and suction area, but still would not stay in place. Pass on this mirror, concept is good, but does not function as it should.

This actually stayed on my mirror! When I first looked into it this product I wasn’t too sure suction would be the safest securing mechanism. However, I recently took a 1500 mile trip and both mirrors stayed in place!! AND it even held over a micro crack in my mirror!! I thought for sure air would eventually leak beneath the suction dome & release it. But it stayed fast the ENTIRE trip!

It’s got a tiny cord that wraps around the existing mirror, so that just in case it does release it when not go bouncing do we the highway!

My only minor complaint is that is doesn’t actually provide that much extra visibility. I don’t really see anything that my truck mirrors don’t see also.

I''m of two minds about this product. It does exactly what it should. Sticks to the right-mirror and allows me to see past a trailer that is slightly wider than my truck. But it is pretty convex and makes objects appear smaller. This is fine, even handy, for close work like backing. But it is not easy to use it to see a half-mile down the road behind you to see if anyone is coming up fast. On straight roads, you can just as easily use the flat left mirror, but on long curves to the right you have to use the passenger mirror to see far behind. If it ever breaks, I will think long and hard about possibly putting a flat (not convex) mirror on the passenger side instead of this mirror, i.e., use the same Camco "flat" mirror that they sell for the driver''s side. My guess is the flat mirror will work well enough for backing and be a lot better for seeing anything at a distance.

I Have a 2013 Ford expedition EL and went on a four hour trip these mirrors worked great I couldn’t see around my 33 foot forest river before but with these mirrors attached as close to the edge of the mirror as I could, they worked great. I used rubbing alcohol to clean my mirrors and the suction cup‘s and they never moved. But I tightened the suction cup as far as they would go and had no trouble really glad I bought these instead of one of the other options. Wish the mirrors were a little bit bigger and they did shake a little but I could see nothing before I put the mirrors on. And being able to move the mirrors with my controls inside the truck was a really great.

This mirror has some BIG claims that it just doesn’t deliver on! After reading reviews on line I went with two driver side mirrors as I would see actual size. Out of the box one of the two wouldn’t stay in place, it kept floating down not on my cars mirror but somehow in the internals of the sucktion system even though I had it redickulisly tight compared to the other one. I switched sides and that seemed to help long enough to find out how awful these really are! I tried in four positions on my cars mirror, all positions had different issues but the worst is what little the cars mirror view did to see was taken away by 80% or more, the claim they don’t vibrate is not true, the shaking started making me sick to myself and in fact was enough to force my power mirror to move from the wind at 55 mph! Only good thing was the “safety strap” as after about 8 miles the one on the passenger side came unstuck and fell to the safety strap as it was swinging back and forth on the paint of the door!! I pulled over and took them off and found that my factory mirrors were better for the sides of the car and trailer.

For best suction, wipe the mirror and lick your thumb and run it around the rim of the cup before tightening it down. Your sideview mirror will come off before the suction gives out!

WE bought these as thought being able to adjust them on the car was great but they are genuinely rubbish, firstly they fall off regularly, the suction cup struggles to get a good bond. The other major issues are the mirror size, it is tiny, you cant get a good view of the caravan and the mirrors have started to fail, like old bathroom mirrors, the glass has gone patchy and pitted. The worst issue is the fact that they are on your driving mirrors, the mirrors on our Kia wobble a bit and so the towing mirrors wobble but much worse, they also block a huge section of mirror making the drive dangerous at times. They have today gone in the bin and been replaced.

I hated the last kind of mirror extensions I had: the straps hummed loudly, they scratched my mirrors, they kept sagging, and were very hard to adjust and keep adjusted. The Tow-N-See seems like a far superior concept. Unfortunately the screws knob that applies suction to the cup is connected to a plastic screw that can strip rather than "bottom out" if you over tighten. I found this out the hard way with my drivers side (flat) mirror, so knew better with the passenger one. Fortunately when I contacted Camco, they were great and sent me two now cups (plastic threads attached) immediately and at no charge. I have not had a chance to use them much yet, but so far they are staying in place and in adjustment just fine. The adjustment process is SO much easier than for my old mirror extenders. Just use your regular mirror adjustment, and when the extenders show what you want, the regular side mirrors seem perfect too. The cup obstructs a bit of your regular view, but not enough to be a problem. They are light and seem well made (apart from the plastic thread), and they are much more discrete looking (and sounding) than my old mirrors. Fingers crossed that I will still be as happy with them after a summer of use.

Update: The suction cups are easy to over-tighten then they fail. Wind gusts made my regular car mirror move position. I''ve since switched to the Fit System 3891 Deluxe Universal Clip-on Trailer Towing Mirror 5" x 7", which I like much better. Original review: I have tested these units out, but have not yet gone on a major road trip, so my experience with this product, while good so far, is limited. The suction cups seem to work very well. Since it works on vacuum, it is important to use with a clean the mirror surface, and be sure not to over-tighten the vacuum "dial." Based on a couple of other reviews I read, I made the mistake of purchasing the "left" mirror for both sides of my vehicle. Upon testing, I quickly realized that using a "left" mirror on the right side of my vehicle does not show enough of the road; hence, I ended up purchasing the "right" version of this mirror for the right side of my vehicle.

But if you do over-tighten then, and it''s easy to do, then they are done. The internal screw strips, and they won''t tighten down enough to stay stuck when the door closes or if it''s windy. Unfortunately, I didn''t discover this until too late, and I can no longer return them. If you''re very careful with these, they work well, but given the fragility, I wouldn''t buy them again.
